Freshman boys complete tourney
Sub-Varsity Basketball

The Lampasas High School boys' freshman basketball team went 1-2 at the Marble Falls Tournament during the weekend.

The Badgers (2-4) opened with a 44-35 loss to Fredericksburg, falling behind 15-6 before rallying in the second and third periods. Colton Perkins led the team with 16 points, Lazarus Salazar scored six, and Caleb Morrow and Jamaal Harvey scored two apiece.

They rebounded with a 51-34 win against the Marble Falls B Team, overcoming a 7-2 deficit with a 21-2, second-quarter run. Harvey led the team with a season-high 16 points, Perkins chipped in nine, and Morrow and Salazar each added four.

The Badgers closed the tournament with a 61-39 loss to St. Michael's. Perkins scored a team-high 16 points. Ryan Peter added seven, and Salazar scored six.

Hill Country 36, LHS 8th A 29: Brandon Scott and Tanner Swinford combined for 24 points, but Hill Country was able to hold off the Badgers.

Scott scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, blocked a shot and registered two assists and two steals. Swinford scored 12 points, pulled down five rebounds, blocked a shot and recorded an assist. Lucas Atkinson scored five points and registered five rebounds.

"This team showed amazing improvement over the last time we played," Coach Aaron Knuckles said.

"They have been working very hard in practice and are starting to come together as a team. I thought we played very good team defense, did a tremendous job on the boards and outhustled a talented Hill Country group."
