Deadline for nominations for THC awards nearing

The December deadlines for nominations for the Texas Historical Commission's preservation awards and T.R. Fehrenbach Book Award are coming.

THC encourages nominations of a local historical preservation devotee for one of the major awards presented at the agency's annual historic preservation conference set for May 1-3 in Corpus Christi.

Also presented at the conference is the prestigious T.R. Fehrenbach Book Award, which recognizes books based on original research that preserve, record and recount the prehistory or history of Texas.

One preservation award of note is the Award of Excellence in Preserving History, which honors an individual, organization or project that has significantly contributed to the understanding or preserva- tion of Texas history. This award specifically recognizes achievements in preservation planning, historic site identification, preservation of significant archival or artifact collections, or research that leads to a greater understanding of state or local history.

Other THC awards include the Award of Excellence in Historic Architecture, the George Christian Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award, the Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award, the John L. Nau III Award of Excellence in Museums, and the Curtis D. Tunnell Lifetime Achievement Award in Archeology.

Deadline for preservation award and T.R. Fehrenbach Book award submissions is Dec. 31 at 5 p.m.

Guidelines and nomination forms are available at www.thc.state.tx.us.
