The Lometa boys' basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after recent wins against Cross Plains and Evant on Tuesday.

Led by the perimeter play of Joe Michael Rivera, the post play of Toby Davis and the allaround play of Brandon Faubion, the Hornets found ways to make crucial plays in tight games. They beat Cross Plains, 57-54, and Evant, 47-42, in overtime.

Against Evant, Rivera scored a team-high 14 points, with nine of those coming via three-pointers. Faubion had 12 points in the contest, including one three-point shot, and also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Davis recorded eight assists from the post spot and used quick passes to break up Evant's 3-2, half-court press.

"We were missing a couple of guys, so we had to play some kids a little longer than we normally would," Coach Wendell Bradley said. "But the kids responded and played well."

Against Cross Plains, Faubion led the team with 14 points. Davis scored 12, including two successful shots from beyond the arc. Rivera tallied eight points, with six coming via three-pointers. On the year, 15 of Rivera's 23 points have been on three-pointers.
