FFA Swine Show slated

The Lampasas FFA will host the 2007 annual San Saba District FFA Swine Show Saturday at the Lampasas County Youth Livestock Showbarn.

FFA and 4-H youth from seven counties that comprise the San Saba District will compete for prize money, champion buckles and showmanship awards.

More than 100 hogs from across the district will compete as a warm-up to the county and major shows in 2008.

Various Lampasas County businesses have assisted with sponsorships, and Lampasas County Young Farmers, an agricultural education support group, will offer a concession stand to raise money for scholarships.

Admission is free and the public is invited.

Hogs will arrive between 7-9 a.m., and weight cards will be turned in by 9:40 a.m.

A swine showmanship clinic is set at 10 a.m., while district ag teachers break all classes and prepare for the show.

Judge Slayton Strube from Texas A&M University will judge the six classes of hogs as well as showmanship competitions.

Classes consist of Yorkshire, Hampshire, duroc, crossbred, black OPB and white OPB.

Showmanship categories include pee-wee, prekindergarten through second grade; juniors, grades three through six; intermediate, grades seven through nine; and seniors, grades 10 through 12.
