Null nabs LSC South's top academic honor

Keith Null: West Texas A&M junior quarterback honored for his work in the classroom.
Lampasas High School graduate Keith Null proved he didn't go to West Texas A&M University just to play football.

Null, a junior quarterback, was honored for his achievements in the classroom on Wednesday, being selected Lone Star Conference South Division Academic Player of the Year.

Null, a sports and exercise science major, has thrown for 3,276 yards and 33 touchdowns in leading the Buffaloes to an 11-0 record, a No. 4 national ranking, an outright LSC title and an NCAA Division II playoff appearance. But his numbers in the classroom have been equally impressive. Null has maintained a 3.9 grade point average.

The 6'5" signal caller will lead his team against Washburn University in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday. The Buffaloes play host to Washburn at noon in Canyon.

On Tuesday, Null was selected honorable mention on the All-LSC South Team. Midwestern State's Daniel Polk was named to the firstteam, and Abilene Christian's Billy Malone was named to the second team.

Null passed for more yards per game and more touchdowns than did either of the quarterbacks who finished ahead of him. He also went on the road and beat both quarterbacks in head-to-head meetings this year.
