JV girls survive double OT Lori Stafford and Kayla Lowery provided much of the offense, and Andrea White held her own under the basket as the Lady Badgers held off the Lady Cougars in a doubleovertime thriller on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars rallied from a six-point deficit to tie the game at 48 at the end of regulation. The teams traded free throws in the first overtime period, and the Lady Badgers (2-1) outscored the Lady Cougars 5-3 in the sixth frame. Stafford had 16 points and Lowery 13. Kaylynn Urofsky added nine, and White had eight points and eight rebounds. "These girls grew up and they grew together as a team," coach Stuart Beckwith said. "They overcame all types of adversity and were still able to win the game. They all played with great heart." LHS 9th Girls 51, China Spring 30: The Lady Badgers dominated the first three periods and ran away with a convincing home win to improve their season record to 3-0. Marisa Bogart scored a gamehigh 16 points, Madison Morris scored 12 and Mikenzie Myrick chipped in with 11. "The girls continue to play hard on defense," coach Jimmie Cain said. "We shot the ball better this game and did a good job from the free-throw line." Belton JV Boys 63, LHS JV 45: The Tigers jumped out to a 35-15 halftime lead and cruised to a win at Belton on Tuesday. For the Badgers, Astin Murray scored nine points, Anthony Salazar added eight and Carlos Cintron chipped in seven. "I thought the guys played with a lot of heart and intensity," LHS coach Kyle Black said. "We need to work on our offenses and on our defensive rotations, but I was proud of the effort. They never gave up and fought hard." Belton 9th Boys 65, LHS 9th 23: The Tigers jumped out to a 15-0 lead in a decisive win at Belton on Tuesday. Ryan Peter led the Badgers with nine points, Paul Patton scored five and Jamaal Harvey, Coleton Perkins and Lazarus Salazar contributed two apiece. |
