Retired teachers hear president's report on fall workshop session

Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association met Nov. 6 in the Lampasas ISD Board Room with 25 members present.

President Kay Gray-Fox conducted the chapter's business and reported on the Oct. 17 Region XII Fall Workshop in Waco. One of the biggest pieces of news she said, is that all retired personnel will be given a 13th check for 2007, and it probably won't arrive until January 2008, and will be a separate check.

Another good bit of news, according to the president, is that the cost of health insurance did not increase.

The 2008 convention will be in the spring in El Paso. More details will be available later.

Julie Landrum introduced School Creek Baptist Church Pastor Jerry Perkins and his wife, Rebecca. Perkins, church pastor since 1999, was the club's guest speaker.

The retired lieutenant colonel reminisced about his school days and how his teachers taught him about behavior and relationships.

An avid golfer, Perkins used the golf term, "mulligan," which means giving a golfer a second chance to hit his ball off the tee a second time, to make the point that everyone deserves a second chance in life.

"Life is about relationships, and relationships are about giving a second chance like Jesus did when He died on the cross for sinners, giving them the ultimate second chance," the pastor said. "The bottom line is forgiveness because forgiveness is love in action."

Next meeting is Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Lometa United Methodist Church. A catered dinner will be $7 per member. The Telephone Committee will call for reservations. Non-members not on the call list should Phone Martha Green for reservations at 556- 3460.

All retired school personnel are invited to attend to learn about the benefits of membership.

Janie Potts will have charge of the Christmas program.
