SPORTS SHORTS YOUTH BASKETBALL The Boys and Girls Club of Lampasas has scheduled basketball registrations from now through Nov. 30. Anyone interested in participating can stop by the Boys and Girls Club office from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. BASKETBALL The Lampasas High School basketball team invites the public to join it for a free hamburger dinner Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium. * The Ida Taylor Memorial Play Day Basketball Tournament is scheduled for Saturday at the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center in Burnet. The tournament is open to women age 35 and older. Team and individual entries are welcome. The cost is $10 per person. TRAIL RIDE A Saddle Up trail ride benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is scheduled for Saturday at the Divided by 3 West Ranch in Kempner. The ride will start at the Divided by 3 West and encompass 10 total miles, circling through the Hoffpauir Ranch. Participants and attendees will help raise funds for the organization which helps children with diseases such as cancer, AIDS and sickle cell anemia. For more information, call Tracie Chaney at 254-290-7448. SHOOTING The Lampasas 4-H Shooting Sports Club will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Holiday Inn Express. All 4-H members and youth ages 9-18 are eligible to participate in monthly Saturday or Sunday shotgun target events that include skeet, trap and sporting clays. RODEO The Texas Amateur Rodeo Association has scheduled its third annual Thankgiving Celebration for Nov. 17 at Spirit Reigns Arena in Liberty Hill. Books open at 9 a.m., and events start at 10 a.m. Negative Coggins is required. The price is $6 for TARA members and $9 for non-members. Practice runs are $2 for members and $4 for non-members or one donation of a toy or book. Events include cloverleaf barrels, Pony Express relay, pole bending, flag racing and a cowhide race. Turkey legs, hot dogs and caramel apples will be for sale. For more information, call 868-0033. YOUTH SOCCER The Tri-City Express U19 girls' team clinched first place in the Captial Area Youth Soccer Association's league play with a 5-0 win against the Tri-County Flyers on Sunday. Angel Waters scored twice, and Paige Bishop and Kelsey Wilcox each found the net with the fifth goal going in off a Tri- County player. Elizabeth Hawthorn registered the shutout. The Express advanced to the South Texas Western Division playoffs. SOFTBALL Texas SoftballMagazine invites all high school and 18-and-under softball teams to participate in the 2007 South Texas Classic Dec. 15 in Victoria. For entry information, call 979-258-7050. |
