City accepting donations for Christmas program This will be the second year for the city of Lampasas' Christmas program, Santa's Village and Trail of Lights. Both events generated a tremendous amount of interest and support from the community last year, said Lampasas Parks Director Monty Blackmon. The majority of last year's Christmas decorations, store fronts and displays were constructed by the city's Parks and Recreation Department due to the deterioration of the existing Christmas decorations that were used for many years. "The 2006 Santa's Village and Trail of Lights program was a huge success. We want to make this year's program even better," said Blackmon. "The key to the continuing success and expansion of the program not only lies with the city but the community and local businesses. We have the ability to develop a Christmas program that can attract visitors to Lampasas from surrounding counties, as well as the entire state," Blackmon said. "This program provides an opportunity for local businesses to set up their own Christmas displays or sponsor an area with their business name. There also is an approved Christmas decoration book for businesses or individuals to pick out their own displays." With the multitude of electrical outlets at W.M. Brook Park, vendors or businesses can sell their goods, arts and crafts, or concessions as part of the program. Blackmon said last year numerous businesses and individuals contributed money toward new decorations, and he invites donations again for this year's events. Space is still available for nonprofits and local businesses from Dec. 10-23, and reservations are being accepted. To be a sponsor, donate money or participate in the Santa's Village and Trail of Lights, contact Blackmon at 734-1076. ![]() |
