CEDAR PARK - From the opening kickoff to the final drive Friday night, the Lampasas football team was simply overmatched.

The Cedar Park Vista Ridge Rangers (3-6 overall, 3-3 in District 25-4A) racked up 476 total yards of offense -- 367 of which came on the ground -- and held the Badgers to 104 yards in a 42-0 Rangers win.

Vista Ridge accumulated 22 first downs and held Lampasas (0-9, 0- 6) to eight.

"It's just hard for the kids when every week they're outmanned, outgunned, outspeeded, out-everything," LHS head coach Ryan Bailey said. "It'll get better, but it's tough right now. We've got a good group coming up from the junior varsity, and if we can find a way to match up the skill guys we have on varsity with the intensity we play with on junior varsity, we'll be pretty good."

The Badgers have one chance remaining to pick up a win. They play host to Dripping Springs on Friday. Dripping Springs also is winless in district play and comes off a 42-3 loss to Burnet.

Friday's game will be Parents Night for the seniors. The contest starts at 7:30 p.m., but Parents Night festivities are scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Rangers jumped out to a 21- 0 first-quarter lead behind an explosive option attack. Junior quarterback Taylor McHargue carried the ball five times for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter alone before taking a seat to let senior backup Carter Whiteside play the final three quarters.

McHargue opened the scoring with a 29-yard run and made it 21- 0 on a 19-yarder. He was untouched on both plays.

Running back Evan Gilbert, who finished with 41 yards on 10 carries, provided the score between McHargue's, cashing it in from four yards out. Gilbert would score again with 10:16 remaining in the game to run the final tally to 42-0.

Sophomore running back Calvin Thompson, who is the younger brother of former Oklahoma quarterback Paul Thompson, carried for 95 yards in the game. He scored on a 6-yard run right before the half to make it 28-0 at intermission and again on a 35-yard jaunt to bring the score to 35-0 with 8:20 left in the third quarter.

The Rangers threw just three passes all night, completing one for nine yards.

The Lampasas offense found no consistency on either side of the ball.

Sophomore quarterback Vann Millican missed on his first eight attempts, finishing the night 6 of 20 for 36 yards.

Jarrod Bowen completed 1 of 4 passes, including a nifty 36-yard reception on a tipped ball from Melvin Batiste to Seth Fry, but Bowen also threw an interception at the goal line that killed one of just two LHS scoring threats.

Sophomore running back Brode DuBose led the team with 26 rushing yards on 12 carries. His longest run of the night was six yards.

Bowen had the longest run of the night for the Badgers, scrambling for 17 yards to the Vista Ridge 28 late in the first half, but he threw the interception to Tyler Patmon on the following play.

The Badgers again had a chance to score in the fourth quarter, driving the ball from their own 7 to the Vista Ridge 7 before the Rangers' defense stiffened and forced a turnover on downs after a fake fieldgoal attempt.

The Badgers' failure to score marks the third shutout of the season. Marble Falls beat Lampasas 21-0, and Connally beat them 38-0.
