Trustees to consider campus name

Kirk Whitehead, chairman of the committee charged with recommending a name for the new elementary campus to be built in eastern Lampasas County, said nominations are being accepted until Dec. 10 from the public.

Nominations must be received at the Lampasas ISD Administration Building, 207 W. Eighth St., by Dec. 10.

Individuals or groups may make suggestions of a name or geographical site to be consid- ered. The names must be submitted accompanied by written rationale and a description of their significance.

In addition, if the nomination is for an individual, he or she must be widely respected, regardless of any partisan affiliation; a person of character who embodies a wholesome image expected to stand the test of time; and reflect a background of service to the people of LISD, the state of Texas or the U.S.

Once a recommendation is ready, it will be forwarded to the board of trustees, which has complete authority for naming or renaming LISD facilities.

District statutes require that new buildings must be named for one of the following: historical or geographical sites or communities; deceased, significant individuals; local, state or national historical events or places; significant state or national figures; or a person who has made a significant contribution to education in the district.
