Final blood drive slated

November is the month for giving thanks, and one of the greatest gifts is the gift of life, said Wanda Meyers, coordinator for the upcoming Lampasas Community Blood Drive.

"Giving blood is also one of the easiest gifts to share. Blood donors can give someone the gift of life each time they give blood."

A single blood donation can save up to three lives, she noted.

The final American Red Cross blood drive is set Monday at AMVETS Post 80. Donors will receive a free T-shirt during the event from 12:30-6:30 p.m.

"Accident victims, cancer and leukemia patients, and people needing life-saving surgeries and transfusions require an adequate blood supply every day," said Mrs. Meyers.

"Blood donations for these everyday needs are especially critical during the holidays because donors are distracted by holiday activities and fewer people give blood."

Donating blood is easy and takes about an hour.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, in good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and not have given blood in the past 56 days. Bring a photo identification card to register. Eat a good meal and drink water before donating.

Information is available from Mrs. Meyers at 556-3338.
