Kempner agrees to install security cameras at City Hall Mayor Pro Tem Paul Cook, at last week's Kempner City Council meeting, said security cameras would be installed in City Hall. The equipment has been purchased and is ready to be put in place, Cook said, who moderated the meeting in the absence of Mayor Gene Isenhour. There was just barely a quorum, as only Cook and two other council members -- Gene Jones and Melba Vanderveer -- were present. "There will be two cameras in the lobby, one in the police chief's office and one in the city office area," Cook said. "The cameras will be linked to a monitor in the city office. The total cost of the equipment and installation will be $698, which is less than the $1,000 budgeted for City Hall security measures. "With the cameras in place, City Hall will be a safer environment for employees and visitors." The council also discussed plans for Kempner's 10th anniversary celebration on Nov. 10. A reception at City Hall will extend from 1-3 p.m. Cook and City Secretary Frances Spinney said they have been preparing a history of the community for the celebration. The public is invited to attend the reception. Also last week, the mayor pro tem issued a proclamation that set the week of Nov. 5-9 as Municipal Court Week in Kempner. Cook said the proclamation extends appreciation to City Presiding Judge Yolanda Cortes Mares, Prosecuting Attorney Joe Petronis, Administrative Judge Mrs. Spinney and Municipal Court Clerk Trudy Davis. The proclamation also recognizes all municipal judges and clerks for the vital services they perform and for their dedication to the communities they represent. In concluding the council's brief meeting, members accepted the resignation of Place 3 Councilwoman Alicia Ford. She recently submitted her resignation and will move to Arizona to be nearer her children and grandchildren. "We appreciate Alicia for her service to the city and Kempner Volunteer Fire Department," Cook said. She has been an asset to this community and Lampasas County. We hate to see her go but wish her well in the future." Cook said the council is in the process of selecting a new member, and action on the appointment of Mrs. Ford's replacement may come at the next meeting, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. |
