Lometa Mayor Mike McGarry dies Thursday

Lometa Mayor Mike McGarry died early Thursday morning at his residence in Lometa after a lengthy illness. He was 69.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Sneed Funeral Chapel of Lampasas.

Mr. McGarry was appointed to the Lometa City Council in 2001 to fill an unexpired term. In May 2004, he was named mayor pro tem.

McGarry then fillied the unexpired term of then-Mayor Bob McClinton when he resigned in January 2005.

After McClinton's resignation, council members agreed to McGarry's filing the seat until a subsequent election.

McGarry was re-elected to another term in 2006.
