Man killed in rollover accident on Thursday

Martin 'Mitch' Fortner
A Lometa man was killed in a one-vehicle accident Thursday night on FM 581, 8 1/2 miles west of Adamsville.

A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety indicates Martin Mitchel Fortner, 24, was traveling east on the farm-to-market road just after 8 p.m. when his 1989 Chevy Blazer drifted off to the left into the westbound lane of traffic.

Fortner steered to the right then over-corrected to the left, causing the vehicle to roll 1 1/2 times before it came to rest facing west in the westbound barrow ditch, according to the report.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Dick Lockett.

The DPS report states Fortner was not wearing a seat belt.

The accident was investigated by Trooper II Michael Ray Tatum and assisted by Sgt. Stephen Fox Bynum, the Lampasas County Sheriff's Department, Lampasas Fire Department, Adamsville Volunteer Fire Department and Capital Ambulance.
