Garden club discusses landscaping project The L-M Garden and Civic Club of Lometa held its regular monthly meeting Oct. 15 at the club building with 19 members in attendance. President Sabrina McKenzie began the meeting with an outdoor discussion of the landscaping project. Members then returned to the building for refreshments and a program on herbs by Eleanor Middaugh. Refreshments, served by hostesses Gayle Myers and Susan Stone, reflected information on the culinary uses of herbs. Rosemary chicken, mesquite bean muffins and sumac lemonade made for an interesting diversion from the usual fare. Mrs. Middaugh's program also included trivia on the use of herbs throughout history. Her exhibit table included a wide variety of specimens taken from her personal herb garden, cookbooks for each member and hand-outs on everyday uses of herbs and craft ideas. Following the program, a short business meeting was held. The minutes and treasurer's report were accepted. A thank-you note was read from the Lometa Senior Center for the use of the Garden Club Building while their facility was being restored after storm damage. Sammie Leggett, chairman of the landscaping committee, was given the go-ahead to have the cement work done for new walkways and an entrance ramp for the handicapped. There were no standing committee reports. |
