Woodson spoils Homecoming
By JEREMY HEATH Staff Writer

Woodson's defense stiffened inside its own 10-yard line five times in a decisive win against Lometa last Friday.

The Hornets (4-3) have lost two of three, but they have a bye tonight before opening Six-Man Division I District 16 play at home against Buckholts next Friday.

Not only did the Hornets get stopped five times on first-andgoal situations, they lost four fumbles and gave Woodson the ball on the Lometa 20 after a 4- yard punt. The Hornets trailed just 20-15 early in the second half, but Woodson took advantage of Lometa mistakes to score 36 unanswered points.

"Four lost fumbles and a 4-yard punt from our own 16 makes it pretty hard to beat anybody," Lometa head coach Wendell Bradley said. "Once they got a two-score lead on us, they just went to the ground and ran over us. The effort was there; we played hard. We just didn't execute when we needed to.

"We are in pretty good shape injury-wise, but we need the week off to re-focus on our goals for district."

Anthony Torres (30), Sam Pauly (3) and James Logsdon (12) combine for a tackle in the Hornets' recent homecoming game.
The Hornets gained 340 total yards, with 149 on the ground and 191 through the air. But turnovers put added pressure on the defense, which allowed 550 total yards, including 397 on the ground.

Lometa quarterback Joe Michael Rivera returned from an injury to complete 15 of 27 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite target was Brandon Faubion, who caught five passes for 84 yards and both scores.

Anthony Torres rushed 13 times for 113 yards and caught three passes for 72 yards. James Logsdon rushed for 41 yards on 12 carries. David Cruz led the defense with 14 tackles and an interception.

Bubba Salinas had 11 tackles and a sack, while Sam Pauly had nine tackles and a sack. Logsdon added eight tackles, and Eric Belyeu and Dalton Parson each registered a sack.

Its next action is a home game against Buckholts at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. The junior varsity is set to play Thursday against Sidney at home. Game time is 7 p.m. The junior high team will face Sidney at home at 6 p.m. Thursday.
