Annual biker run headed into town

The Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the second annual Lampasas County Historic Fire House Run Biker Rally Friday through Sunday behind Country Inn, at the intersection of U.S. Highways 190, 281 and 183. All bikers are welcome.

Registration is Friday from 5-10 p.m. and Saturday from 8-11 a.m. Fee is $25 per person and includes all activities, a collectible pin and dinner. Event T-shirts will be available for sale.

Registration forms can be picked up at the chamber office, 205 S. U.S. 281, or they can be downloaded at www.lampasaschamber.org. Entry also is available on event day. A number of activities will be offered Saturday:

• Open horseshoe tournament registration at 8 a.m. The event begins at 1 p.m.

• Fire Run historic firehouse tour of Lampasas County, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Grand prize is a three-day, two-night stay at a Bossier City, La., casino.

• John Gear Band performance, 2-5 p.m., featuring rocking blues. The group earned an honorable mention by Billboard Magazine as one of the new songwriters for the song "Memphis." They have played at Threadgill's, Nunos on 6th, La Zona Rosa and the Rumble on The River Bike Rally.

• Parade through Lampasas from 4-5 p.m.

• People's Choice Bike Show, 4:30-6 p.m. Judging will take place in several categories, with a grand champion recognized.

• Barbecue brisket dinner, 6 p.m.

• Rare Dog Band performance from 7-10 p.m. The Texas band has played at honky-tonks, clubs and concerts for a number of years, and features Charlie Cagle, Greg Brazeal, Billy Peak and Dan Rielly.

The group's new compact disk, "Texas Back Roads," combines rock, country, Spanish and blues influences throughout the album. The public is invited to hear both bands. • Burnout, 9 p.m.

A blessing of the bikes is Sunday at 8 a.m.

Free tent camping will be available on site Friday and Saturday for any registered biker.

Vendor booths are 10x10-foot spaces at $40 apiece. Food booths are $60. Applications for booths are available at the chamber office.

A portion of the event proceeds will benefit Lampasas County fire departments.
