The Lometa football team bounced back in a big way from its loss to May with a 61-44 win at Bynum last Friday.

The Hornets (4-2) are scheduled to play host to Woodson in a Homecoming affair at 7:30 tonight.

"Woodson's a very good team," Hornets coach Wendell Bradley said.

In the win over Bynum, junior quarterback David Cruz had to relieve injured starter Joe Michael Rivera. Cruz responded by completing 17 of 24 passes for 243 yards and six touchdowns, and rushing for 149 yards and two more scores.

"David came in, and we ran the spread," Bradley said. "We had a great game throwing and catching. The whole team pulled together in this one, and David was the catalyst for it."

The Hornet defense allowed 599 total yards, but it made big plays to counter the leakage. Cruz, Bubba Salinas and Trent Cavness intercepted passes, and Eric Belyeu recorded two sacks. Salinas returned his interception 25 yards for a score.

Lometa Hornet Trent Cavness hauls in a pass in Lometa's win over Bynum in a high-scoring affair last week. The Hornets will face Woodson tonight during Homecoming events in Lometa.
Salinas led the defense with 12 tackles, James Logsdon registered 10, and Sam Pauly had nine.

Bynum led 19-14 at the half, but Lometa's offense exploded for 47 points in the second half.

The Hornets racked up 430 total yards. Chuck Torres ran for 39 yards, and Logsdon added 20 more, but the Hornets did most of their damage in the air.

Before leaving the game, Rivera completed his only pass attempt for 11 yards, giving the Hornets 254 passing yards on the game.

Torres caught seven passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Toby Davis caught five for 88 yards and two scores. Taner Williams caught three for 39 and a touchdown, and Brandon Faubion caught three for 38 and a score. Williams and Faubion also caught two-point conversion passes in the game.
