Trunk show successful

More than 55 women were on hand at the Lampasas Senior Center to see Angela McCorkle of Priddy demonstrate Eleanor Burns' quilting technique -- a technique that made quilting easier and introduced the art to scores of new enthusiasts.

Ms. McCorkle, owner of Quilts with a Heart in Priddy and founder and organizer of the Brownwood Quilt Show, was in town at the invitation of Joyce Lucas and the Needle Art/Quilt Show Committee of Keystone Square Museum.

Each March, the committee stages the museum's biggest fundraiser at the county courthouse, which draws hundreds of visitors to the city to see a display of quilts and needlework by residents and visitors.

The show also offers quilting and needle-art supplies for purchase from vendors across the state.

The 2008 Needle Art/Quilt Show is set March 7-8, and Mrs. Lucas helped organize the trunk show to generate enthusiasm for the March event, as well as to provide a service to the quilting community.

A similar event will be held in 2008.

Mrs. McCorkle, pleased with the turnout, donated $100 to the Senior Center for allowing her to use the space to demonstrate the technique and sell Eleanor Burns books and quilting supplies.

For information on the needle art and quilt show, phone Mrs. Lucas at 556-3242.
