Mr. Hunt

Funeral services for Odell Hunt, 80, of Sweetwater were held Sept. 27, 2007, at Fourth and Elm Street Church of Christ with Joe Bagby and Jim Wilks officiating.

Graveside services were at Payne Gap Cemetery in Mills County near Goldthwaite with Brother Doyle Combs officiating.

Mr. Hunt died Sept. 24 at his residence.

He was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Lampasas County and graduated from Lometa High School in 1943. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II in the South Pacific. He also served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

Mr. Hunt married Beatrice (Bea) Green on March 22, 1950, in Canyon.

He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years as a pole climber, a phone installer and then working on toll.

A resident of Sweetwater since 1959, Mr. Hunt was active in Sweetwater Summer League Baseball and was a member of the Downtown Men's Bible Class.

He enjoyed dancing at the senior center dances.

Survivors include two sons, Al Hunt and wife, Karen, of Sweetwater, and Will Hunt, of Lake Whitney; a daughter, Denise Friend, of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Eric Friend, Ashley Friend, Shawn Hunt, Christopher Hunt, Allison Hunt, Rachel Hunt and Michael Hunt; one brother, J.D. Hunt, and wife, Cleta, of Star; a half-brother, Roland Sperry, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 22, 1973.

Pallbearers were Vershel Smith, Bill Stroman, Lewis Williams, Ronald Bewley, Willard McFaul and Herbert Hoover. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Downtown Men's Bible Class.

The family requested memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, TX 78761, or the American Cancer Society, 209 S. Danville Dr., Abilene, TX 79605.
