SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

A Care Giving Campaign will take place throughout the year in Lampasas and neighboring communities to benefit the Manuel Torrez Jr. Liver Transplant Fundraising Committee.

Torrez, who was diagnosed with a liver disease, needs a transplant. He was born and raised in Lampasas and graduated in 1976 from Lampasas High School.

Committee members state that $250,000 is needed for Torrez to be placed on the transplant list.

A two-day men's softball tournament, which will feature a home run derby, is scheduled for Oct. 13-14 at Turner Field in Lampasas. For information on the event, contact Lori at (512) 459-0901. TECH TAILGATE

The Highland Lakes Chapter of Texas Tech Alumni Association will sponsor a tailgate event four hours prior to the televised Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M game on Saturday. The event will be in the parking lot of the Frank Fickett Education Center, 806 Steve Hawkins Parkway, off U.S. Highway 281 in Marble Falls.

Alumni, students and potential students of Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Central Texas College are invited. Attenders can bring their tailgate gear, including food, beverages, chairs and grills. The game will be televised in classrooms of the Frank Fickett Center. For more information, call TTU at Highland Lakes at (830) 798-9548.

SHOOTING

The Lampasas 4-H Shooting Sports Club will hold its monthly meeting today at 7 p.m. at Mr. Gatti's. Food will be available for purchase.

Youth ages 9-18 are eligible to participate in monthly shotgun target events that will include skeet, trap and sporting clays.

Participants should bring a parent or guardian to all meetings and shooting events.

GUN, KNIFE SHOW

The Oakalla Volunteer Fire Department will hold a gun, knife and antique show Oct. 20-21 at the Oakalla VFD.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21.

Items for sale will include antique guns and knives, coins, collectibles, western decor and hunting gear and equipment. All proceeds go to the Oakalla VFD. For more information, or to reserve a table, call 556-3996.
