Wireless access

The Federal Communications Commission is considering proposals that would limit the growth of wireless telecom access in rural communities all over the country. Any restrictions on wireless expansion are restrictions on rural businesses.

To stay competitive, rural business people need to be as nimble, accessible and well-connected as our urban counterparts. Without ongoing support for improvements to rural wireless infrastructure, rural residents will continue to suffer the inconvenience of dropped calls and limited availability, which will hamper our ability to conduct business.

As the Lampasas County GOP chairman and a businessman myself, I know Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison to be champions of small business and economic growth. I hope they see the value of reliable wireless access, particularly when it comes to its role in helping rural businesses succeed. Their voices are ones that could make a difference as the FCC decides which new policies to adopt and which to reject.
