Trick or treat I am very upset in your choice to take tradition away from my family. I remember going to the square trick or treating when I was little with my sister. And my sister and I have continued that by taking our children to the square to trick or treat, as well. It was honestly one of the only places you knew that you did not have to check the candy first before they could eat it. I had told several of my out-of-town friends to come to Lampasas and trick or treat the square and visit some of the shops because the people who ran them were very down to earth and caring. Well, I am taking that statement back. I do not feel like you care for our children at all. It may just be candy to you, but for some of us it is the only place we take our children on Halloween due to all the people on the road and all the high schoolers who go out and toilet-paper, egg and water-balloon people trying to take their kids house to house or to the churches for other activities. A lot of families choose not to take their children to the churches because they feel they are having religion pushed on them, and now since you have chosen to take the square away, those parents probably will not do anything for their children. I will, however, take my daughter to one of the local churches this year because I do not want her to feel like she is being punished due to the decision someone else made on her behalf. Our children look forward to this every year, and you have let them down. I have decided that since you are taking tradition away from my family, I am taking my money away from your businesses. I do want to thank you for the trick or treating in the past, but I think you need to reconsider your decision on taking it away this year and the year to follow. Misty Wakeman |
