Varsity falls to May, 46-8

May ended Lometa's three-game win streak last Friday with a 46-8 victory over the Hornets in May.

After taking a 14-8 lead into the second quarter, May scored 32 points in the second and third quarters combined, racking up 392 total yards in the win.

May held Lometa (3-2) to 173 total yards, just 35 of which came via the air.

The Hornets are scheduled to play at Bynum at 7:30 tonight.

Chuck Torres led the Hornets with 71 rushing yards on 13 carries. James Logsdon added 37 on nine carries, and Joe Michael Rivera had 13 on six carries.

Rivera completed 2 of 11 passes for 35 yards, including a 5-yard scoring strike to Brandon Faubion. Toby Davis had one catch for 30 yards.

Eric Belyeu led the defense with nine tackles. Sam Pauly had eight tackles, and David Cruz added eight and intercepted a pass. James Smith had four tackles and a fumble recovery, and Torres had two tackles and a sack.

Lometa JV 20, May 6: The Hornet junior varsity defense held May to 173 total yards in a victory last week.

Manuel Hernandez had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery to lead the defense. Scotty Hernandez had eight tackles and intercepted two passes. Ramiro Hernandez recorded seven tackles.

The Hornet offense gained 225 total yards, gaining 206 of that by way of the ground.

Cody Brister led the team with 93 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Hernandez carried twice for 71 yards and a touchdown, and Curtis Crain ran for 25 yards and a score.

Lometa JH 33, May 18: The Hornets junior high squad used a balanced attack to dispose of May.

The Hornets gained 205 total yards, running for 96 and passing for 109.

Dylan Straley keyed the passing attack, completing 5 of 5 passes for 85 yards and two scores. Hector Rivera completed 2 of 6 for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Rivera, Hector Ortiz and Straley each had a touchdown reception, and Straley led the team with 78 rushing yards and two scores.
