SBDC offers workshops for business owners

The Texas State Small Business Development Center has scheduled a series of training workshops to assist small business operators and entrepreneurs organize their company to be poised for success.

Classes are $35 each or all four for $100, and will be held at One Highland Center, 314 E. Highland Mall Blvd., Austin from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a seat by phoning (512) 716-4800 or e-mail sbdc@txstate.- edu.

Getting Your Finances in Order: Setting Up Your Books, Oct. 8. Session looks at the basics of sound financial recordkeeping, because without reliable financial data, it is impossible to manage growth. Understanding financial terminology provides the ability to communicate with a financial advisor, a key component to a business' success.

Business Plan: Narrative, Oct. 15. Course is designed for individuals planning to start a new business as well as for existing business owners who have not yet written a plan. The major components of a business plan will be discussed in detail and a case study used as an example. Learn why the business plan is an important tool to a company's success in determining market feasibility, projecting costs, developing strategies, and planning for contingencies.

Business Plan: Financial Components, Oct. 22. Course examines components of the financial analysis section of a business plan. It discusses start-up costs, monthly expenses, source and use of funds, and financial projections. Without a sound financial budget and plan, a company is more likely to experience a financial crisis which can result in its failure.

Getting Your Business Started on the Right Foot, Oct. 29. The session will introduce the requirements of starting and operating a small business, including the importance of conducting a selfevaluation, completing a feasibility analysis/market research, selecting the business structure (sole proprietor, partnership or corporation), understanding regulatory responsibilities and available resources.
