Gem, mineral show on tap in Temple

Tri-City Gem and Mineral Society will present its 38th annual Gem and Mineral Show at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center in Temple, at I-35 exit 303B.

The show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 13 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14.

Admission is $2. Children under 12 will be admitted free.

Club members will display their collections, which include fossils, arrowheads, phosphorescent minerals and "before and after" gems. There also will be a display of salt from around the world.

Artisans will facet rough materials into finished specimens suitable for use in jewelry. Educational exhibits and demonstrations will be offered throughout the hall, and a new feature will be the children's area with activities specifically for youth.

Vendors will be on hand with products such as jewelry findings, precious and semi-precious stones, rock tumbling/polishing materials, fossils and books on all aspects of "rock hounding."

Hourly door prizes donated by vendors and club members will be given away.

Tri-City Gem and Mineral Society meets the second Tuesday of each month at Grace Presbyterian Church in Temple.

Visitors are encouraged to attend.
