Horse raffle to benefit injured trainer

Friends and family members are organizing a paint horse raffle to benefit Dave Schaffner. The horse trainer, profiled in the Dispatch Record's Aug. 7 edition, is recovering from serious injuries suffered during a riding accident.

Raffle tickets for a seven-yearold registered paint gelding, nicknamed "Ocho," will be available starting next week. The tickets, $5 apiece or five for $20, will be offered at Herrmann Feed & Supply Inc., Lometa Trading Post and D H Land Company.

All proceeds from the raffle will help cover Schaffner's medical bills and other family needs resulting from lost work time.

Raffle organizers plan to take Ocho to county ranch events, such as sortings, team pennings and ranch rodeos so horse enthusiasts will have a chance to view the gelding and consider purchasing tickets.

The raffle gives participants a chance to win "a great trail horse," Schaffner's friend Wes Chancey said.

Raffle entrants can buy tickets for a chance to win either the horse or a $1,000 cash prize.
