Connally sweeps Lady Badgers After playing what head coach Tracey Myers felt was some of their best volleyball of the year in a loss to Dripping Springs last Friday, the Lady Badgers came out flat in a 25-9, 25-11, 25-7 home loss to Pflugerville Connally on Tuesday. "I'm disappointed, and there's not much I want to say on the record right now," Myers said. "I will say Connally has a very good team, and we have to give them a lot of credit." The Lady Badgers (8-17 overall, 0-7 in District 25-4A) will play at Marble Falls at 7:30 p.m. Friday, a match Myers believes her team can win. The Lady Badgers were competitive in all three games of a sweep loss to the Lady Mustangs on Sept. 4. "I know we can beat Marble Falls because we had chances to beat them here," said the coach. "We just have to believe it. That's how we're going to approach the next two days of practice. On Wednesday, we're going to plan on a win. On Thursday, we're going to plan on a win." In Game 1 against Connally, the Lady Badgers fell behind 6-1, then 16-5 and 23-8. Connally senior setter Bria Brimmer continuously set outside hitter Amanda Van Dyke, and Van Dyke repeatedly beat the Lady Badgers with crosscourt kills. Becca Hobbs had two kills in Game 1, while Erin Laney and Shay Norris each had one. LHS fell behind 3-0 in Game 2 but rallied to a 6-5 deficit before Connally took over. Brimmer took the service line with a 13-7 lead and extended it to 20-7. She recorded three aces during the stretch. In Game 2, Norris had a kill and an ace. Laney and Sarah Bishop had two kills apiece, while Hobbs and Allie Spivey each had a kill. In Game 3, the Lady Badgers battled to a 5-5 tie before Van Dyke kills stole momentum. Brittney Hestand served six straight points to give Connally a 12-5 advantage and control of the game. In Game 3, Bishop had a block and an ace, Laney registered a block and a kill, and Norris had two kills. Connally JV def. LHS JV Blue: Connally knocked off the Blue team Tuesday by scores of 25-23, 25-17. For the Blue, Falon Holland had seven kills, and Kirby Kennedy had eight digs playing her first match at the libero spot. |
