Wedding vows exchanged at Lampasas church

Leah and Vaios Lainas
Leah Britton and Vaios Lainas, both of Athens, Greece, exchanged wedding vows in a July 21, 2007, ceremony at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lampasas.

Father Walter Matus of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cyclone, Texas, officiated the doublering evening ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Carlton and Rebecca Britton of Lampasas. She is the granddaughter of the late William and Naomi Wittenburg of Lometa, and the late N.E. and Pauline Britton of Capitan, N.M.

The groom's parents are Sotirios and Foteini Lainas of Athens.

Wedding music was provided by organist Arlene Vitucci of Copperas Cove. Soloist was Pearl Jaramillo of Copperas Cove. Classical musical selections included "Air," during the processional, and "Arioso" for the recessional. Solos included "Ave Maria" and "Wherever You Go."

Each side of the church's altar held a brass candelabra which belonged to the bride's grandmother. They were surrounded by rings of red, yellow and orange gerbera daisies.

A large brass urn filled with daisies, zinnias, berries and wheat was in front of the altar. Pews were decorated with bouquets of daisies, berries and wheat.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a white, strapless silk/satin narrow gown. The dress featured an A-line skirt with a detachable train and crystal beading at the waist and hem.

The bride's elbow-length tulle veil was outlined in rhinestones.

To complement her gown, the bride carried a bouquet of a combination of red, yellow and orange gerbera daisies and zinnias with snapdragons, wheat, hypericum berries, hyacinth and greenery tied with a tiffany blue ribbon.

Maid of honor Gretchen Britton, the bride's sister of Philadelphia. Matron of honor was Jennifer Britton Turnbow, the bride's sister of Austin.

Bridesmaids were Erin Prather- Stafford of Dallas, and Elizabeth Pawlowski-Domaschk of Austin. Kaila Britton, the bride's niece, of Lubbock was junior bridesmaid.

Attendants wore knee-length, chiffon dresses of tiffany blue with a V-neck bodice and streamers at the back.

They carried bouquets similar to the bride's.

Best man was Andreas Lainas, the groom's brother, of Athens.

Groomsmen were Matthew Britton of Lubbock, brother of the bride, and Wesley Turnbow of Austin, the bride's brother-in-law.

Usher was Hank Stafford of Dallas.

Ring bearer was Luke Dotson, the bride's nephew, of Marble Falls.

Following the ceremony, a reception was given by the bride's parents at the Hancock Springs Hostess House in Lampasas.

The hall and grounds were decorated with sparkling white lights.

Table arrangements consisted of gerbera daisies and zinnias in the bride's chosen colors of red, yellow and orange, and bouquets of wheat all tied with tiffany blue and gold ribbons.

Entertainment was provided by "Haywire" of Austin.

Members of the houseparty included Yvonne Contreras of Salt Lake City, Utah; Meredith Carter of London, England; and Dahlia Denton of San Antonio.

The bride's four-tier cake featured alternating layers of red velvet and Italian cream decorated in swirling tendrils piped in chocolate, culminating in a fern-like pattern inspired by transferware of 19th-century English pottery.

The groom's two-tier chocolate cake had chocolate icing. It was accented with chocolate ganache and coffee beans and surrounded by grape leaves.

The couple is at home in Athens.

The bride graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin with a bachelor's degree in English writing and English literature.

She is a copy editor for the Athens News in Athens, Greece.

The groom, a graduate of National Technical University of Athens with a mechanical engineering degree, received a master's degree in engineering business management from the University of Warwick in Warwick, England.

Prior to the ceremony, a rehearsal dinner was given by John and Ann Pitts, Chuck Stanley and the bride's parents at the bride's family ranch home, west of Lometa.

A traditional Texas barbecue was held.
