Mr. Whitehead

Funeral services for John Charles Whitehead, 74, of Lampasas were Sept. 26, 2007, at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Maggie McKinley of Hands of the Promise Church officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Whitehead died Sept. 23 at his residence.

He was born Dec. 31, 1932, the son of John Thompson Stephenson and Annie Zelma Lanman Whitehead.

Mr. Whitehead was a truck driver for several moving companies. He was active in his church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and building birdhouses.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Roberts Whitehead, of Lampasas; a son, John C. Whitehead Jr., of Kingsland; a daughter, Kathy Hudson, of Lorena; a stepson, Billy Shields, of Big Point, Miss.; three stepdaughters, Joy Mallette, of Moss Point, Miss., Jo Tucker, of Grand Bay, Ala., and Lisa Harris, of Luce Dale, Miss.; a sister, Margaret Elizabeth Reed, of Marble Falls; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were Ryan Hudson, Travis Hudson, Roy Harris, Gene Hinson, Justin Whitehead and Glen Polk.

The family requested memorials be made to Hands of the Promise Church.
