JV sweeps Gatesville

Aston Murray and Zach Radenz hooked up twice on touchdown strikes as the Lampasas junior varsity White team slipped past Gatesville, 14-13, on the road Thursday.

Murray completed 5 of 11 passes for 149 yards and two scores, with 134 of those yards on three receptions to Radenz.

Gabe Terrell caught two balls for 15 yards.

The Badgers opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 60-yard connection from Murray to Radenz, taking a 7-0 lead on Curtis Harnois' extra point kick.

Gatesville tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter, but Murray found Radenz on a 15-yard score to reclaim the lead. Harnois' kick made it 14-7.

Gatesville scored late and had a chance to tie it or take the lead, but the Badgers' defense stopped the Hornets' two-point try.

Edward Grant and Harnois led the defense with six tackles and five tackles, respectively. Zach Carnes also had five tackles and a fumble recovery.

LHS JV Blue 20, Gatesville 0: Devontia Frazier carried 10 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns as the Blue team gave the Lampasas JV a sweep against Gatesville on Thursday.

Frazier, who averaged 13.5 yards per attempt, scored on a 40-yarder in the first quarter and a 1-yarder in the fourth. Evan Strickland, who carried six times for 45 yards, capped both drives with two-point runs.

Gabe Myles completed 4 of 5 passes for 35 yards, including a 25- yard touchdown pass to Ben Fitzgerald.

Gatesville 28, LHS 9th White 7: Blain White's 3-yard touchdown run and Coleton Perkins' extra point had this game tied at 7-7 after the first quarter, but Gatesville scored twice in the second quarter and again in the third to put the game away.

"We played very well, but penalties and turnovers hurt us badly in the first half," Coach Ben Needham said. "But we fought back and started correcting those mistakes in the second half."
