Bulldawgs topple LHS tennis team The Lampasas tennis team took a break from District 25-4A play on Saturday to play host to a Copperas Cove team that blanked it 19-0 earlier this year. After losing early leads in a handful of matches, the overall result was similar as the Bulldawgs came away with an 18-1 win. "With six matches going to tiebreakers or third sets and another three with close first-set scores, we just don't appear to have the confidence to finish anyone off," LHS head coach Kenneth Peiser said. "It is mental. If you're winning at the beginning of matches and not finishing them off, it's mental. You have to believe you can do it. Just saying it isn't enough." The girls' doubles team of Amy Johnson and Ciara Salazar registered the only victory of the day for Lampasas. The majority of LHS netters have played 32 fall matches, with eight more scheduled for the fall and 32 scheduled for the spring. "This match play has to happen over time," Peiser said. "For the nine seniors, their time is about up. For the juniors, they should be learning from this year so they can dominate next year. "We're looking at 70-something matches this year. That's where confidence comes from if you play hard, look at each match as an opportunity to improve something and never give up." LHS hosts Pflugerville Connally at 4 p.m. today. |
