The Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association met Sept. 4 in the LISD Administration Board Room with about 40 members present.
Julie Landrum opened with a prayer, and Martha Green led pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.
Following songs by Gene Landrum and David Hausmann, president Kay Gray Fox introduced Texas Retired Teachers Association Representative Sharon Wishnew. She spoke on health-care benefits.
Ms. Wishnew discussed several TRTA-endorsed benefits including dental insurance and vision plan; long-term care insurance individualized to fit needs; final expense whole life insurance which goes directly to the beneficiary for final expenses; tax-deferred annuity where money transferred in brings 5 1/2 percent, is safe, must stay in eight years, grows protected, can take out once a year, and passes directly to beneficiary without probate; and first diagnosis cancer insurance, which provides a lump sum upon doctor's diagnosis.
Medical Air Services Association and travel opportunities also were discussed.
These benefits are available to members through Association Member Benefits Advisors, she said.
Next meeting is Oct. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the LISD Board Room. Jim Rutland will give the program on Vision Downtown Lampasas!.
