      Friends of Dave Schaffner, a horse trainer recently profiled in the Lampasas Dispatch Record, are seeking donations to be deposited in a bank account to cover Schaffner's medical and living expenses as he recovers from severe injuries sustained in a riding accident.

      It's a boy! John and Stephanie Smothers of Lampasas are the parents of a son, Jaden Andrew, born Aug. 23, 2007, at 4:48 p.m. at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen. Upon arrival, Jaden weighed 5 pounds, 2 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches in length.

      Lampasas student Antoinette Simmons was honored earlier this week during the Scott & White Worth the Wait Creative Arts Contest Awards Ceremony at the hospital's education building. Antoinette and family members were treated to dinner. She also received a cash prize and a plaque.
