Mustangs top netters

Lampasas senior Amy Johnson injured her leg in the second set of her girls' singles match against Marble Falls on Tuesday.

That didn't stop Johnson from picking up her sixth win of the week. Johnson went 4-0 in singles and doubles combined in two LHS losses on Saturday. Johnson also teamed up with Kayla Krueger to capture a doubles win to go 6-0 on the week.

"She had to adjust her game but she just kept plugging away and found a way to win," head coach Kenneth Peiser said of Johnson. "It seems like she improves her record every time she steps on the court."

Johnson's toughness wasn't enough to spark the team to a win as Marble Falls took the District 25-4A match, 14-5.

The LHS boys showed improvement after getting swept by both Fredericksburg and Kerville Tivy on Saturday.

The doubles tandem of Zach McKenzie/Phillip McLain scored a come-from-behind win.

"They played some of their best tennis of the season," Peiser said. "They were both aggressive and started hitting shots they've been working on the last few weeks."

The boys' doubles team of Stan Smith/Dustin Hause also recorded a victory, and Smith registered a three-set singles win.

"He approached the net, punched his vollies, moved his opponent around and played to win," the coach said of Smith. "And he did it under pressure in the third set under the lights with everyone watching."
