Business seminar set

The Texas State Small Business Development Center has scheduled a seminar on computer data security and contingency planning to assist small business owners and managers to determine if they are flirting with disaster.

According to a January 2005 survey conducted by "Continuity Insights" magazine and KPMG Risk Advisory Services, more than one in four businesses will experience a significant crisis in a given year. And of those businesses that experience a disaster and have no emergency plan, 43 percent will not reopen.

"Protecting Your Computer Data in a World Gone Mad" will be presented on Sept. 26 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Round Rock Higher Education Center, 1555 University Blvd.

The seminar will be presented by Garry White, associate professor in CIS & Quantitative Methods, Texas State University-San Marcos.

Attend the workshop to learn how to conduct a risk audit to determine a company's vulnerabilities and then protect electronic data from natural disasters, computer hackers and other threats.

Cost is $55 at the door. Please reserve a seat at (512) 716-4800 or email sbdc@txstate.edu. Please RSVP to meet minimum attendance requirements.
