The Lometa Hornets racked up more than 200 rushing yards in less than three quarters in a 60-14 win over Rising Star last Friday.

The Hornets (2-1) gained 212 of their 321 total yards via the ground attack in a game that was stopped because of the 45-point mercy rule with 1:38 left in the third.

The Hornets are scheduled to play host to Iredell at 7:30 tonight.

Anthony "Chuck" Torres led the Hornet attack with 117 yards and a touchdown on eight carries despite playing just the first half.

After taking a 16-14 lead into the second quarter, the Hornets scored 44 unanswered points in the second and third quarters combined.

With James Logsdon, James Smith, Eric Belyeu, Sam Pauly, David Cruz and Bubba Salinas on the field, the Hornets held the Wildcats out of the end zone on three consecutive first-and-goal series. The defense held the Wildcats to 265 total yards and six first downs.

Lometa quarterback Joe Michael Rivera discusses strategy with head coach Wendell Bradley in the Hornets' most recent win.
"The defense really, really stepped up their intensity in the second quarter," head coach Wendell Bradley said. "This allowed our offense to break the game open in the second quarter."

Senior quarterback Joe Michael Rivera completed 6 of 8 passes for 79 yards and three touchdowns.

Kicker Justin Dixon hit on 6 of 8, extra-point kick attempts to register 12 points.

The Hornets forced four turnovers, and turned each into points. Salinas intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble, Cruz intercepted a pass and Smith recovered a fumble. Cruz and Salinas led the Hornet defense with eight tackles apiece, and Cruz threw a 20-yard touchdown pass.

"This game was one where we took care of our business," Bradley said. "Our players came out and executed the game plan almost to perfection. We got the right people in the right places to play some great football."

Toby Davis caught four passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns, and Brandon Faubion caught two passes for 50 yards, both of those good for scores.

Logsdon carried the ball six times for 43 yards and two touchdowns, and Eric Belyeu carried three times for 33 yards and a score.

Six-Man Division II District 15 Iredell (2-1) is coming off a 42-26 win against Morgan.

"We will need to improve this week and avenge last year's onepoint loss (41-40) to Iredell," said the coach. "They are a physical team that likes to line up and run over you. We need to be physical."

Lometa JV 32, Rising Star 19: The Hornets jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead on their way to a convincing win.

Quarterback Josh Logsdon completed the only pass he threw, a 25- yard touchdown to Juan Moreno.

Cody Brister led the offense with 64 yards and a touchdown, and Ramiro Hernandez and Manuel Hernandez each found the end zone by way of the ground.

Ramiro Hernandez connected on 4 of 4 extra-point attempts.

Rising Star Junior High 36, Lometa 19: Dylan Straley ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another to Hector Rivera in the Hornets' loss.
