Texas Tech homecoming dinner slated

James E. "Pete" and Nelda Laney will be honored with the Laura F. Cavazos Award at the Texas Tech Alumni Association's 2007 "A Matador Evening: the 47th Annual Homecoming Dinner," set Oct. 5 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The event is a fund-raiser with proceeds benefitting academic scholarships at Tech.

The Laura F. Cavazos Award is presented to those who have made a positive impact on the university through outstanding accomplishments, acts of service or financial support.

Laney, a Texas Tech alumni, served five terms as speaker of the House of Representatives. His wife also graduated from Texas Tech, as did all three of their children.

The Cactus Theater's Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine will provide entertainment.

Tickets are $50 per person. Table sponsorships also are available.
