Genealogical society slates full weekend of events Burnet County Genealogical Society, Burnet Cultural Arts Festival and Fort Croghan's Heritage Society is offering a weekend of cultural living and arts Oct. 12-13, to include poets, authors, genealogy research, life skills demonstrations and storytellers. The event kicks off Friday with a genealogy seminar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring Emily Croom speaking on four different research topics. Friday night's keynote speaker is Joaquin Jackson, along with a mix and mingle with star poets and authors. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., travel back in time at old Fort Croghan where folks in period dress will demonstrate life in the 1850s. Visitors can meet dragoons and Indians, frontiersmen and Republic of Texas Rangers with live music all day. Also on Saturday, research will be available at the Fort Croghan Museum for genealogy buffs where they can access original will packets, deed and district court record books, other books and original photographs. On Saturday night at Burnet High School, author John Erickson will present "Hank the Cowdog" in concert. A big bandswing dance featuring the Flashbacks will follow.
