Student buglers can take part in state tuition voucher program Texas Buglers announces participation in the Texas "Taps" Tuition Voucher Program passed this month by the Texas House and Senate and signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry. The program allows students in grades six through 12 to perform taps at military honors funerals held in Texas and to receive a $25 tuition voucher per funeral to be used for higher education. Schools have been instructed to honor the absent day as an attended day of school without penalty, and to give students a reasonable amount of time to make up missed school work. Texas Buglers plans to assist with the program by providing bugles and teaching students how to play "Taps." Once ready, buglers are informed of services near them that require their skills. Texas Buglers relies solely on donations and does not charge for its services. Interested persons can contact www.texasbuglers.org to volunteer, donate or to request a bugler for a service. ![]() |
