FB sets annual meeting

Don Brent
Lampasas County Farm Bureau invites all county residents to its annual County Convention Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Building, 1793 N. Highway 281. Barbecue and drinks will be furnished. Please bring a salad or dessert.

Speaker will be Don Brent, chief of public safety operations for the Lower Colorado River Authority. His topic will be "How Safe Are We?"

Life in the U.S. was changed forever on Sept. 9, 2001, when American soil was attacked by terrorists who killed thousands. "Americans have always been confident in their safety regarding attack from outside our boundaries," said a Farm Bureau representative. "But that false sense of security was shattered in 2001, when two planes flew into the towers of the World Trade Center and another crashed into the Pentagon."

Brent's talk will focus on how even a rural community can be at risk.

He began his law enforcement career as a state trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety in Baytown.

Brent assumed the role of security administrator for LCRA in 1996, and in 1998 he was promoted to chief ranger. When the department reorganized in 2007, Brent became chief of public safety operations for LCRA.

He is a master police officer, a firearms instructor, emergency medical technician, dive master and swift-water rescue technician. He lives in Georgetown and has two children.

A business session will follow the presentation. For information, phone the Farm Bureau at 556-6271.
