Student lauded
Kiefer Eakes, a student at Lampasas High School, was selected by the University Interscholastic League as an "Outstanding Performer" at the 2007 Texas State Solo-Ensemble Vocal Solo Contest. Of the nearly 85,000 students participating in the regional UIL music contests and the 22,000 musicians who performed at the TSSEC, only 220 were honored as Outstanding Performers. Eakes was presented a medallion, identical to those awarded to state champions at all UIL events. Eakes, a choir student of Betty Ann Whitis, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Eakes and the late Dorothy Harris Eakes. He is pictured with members of the Lampasas Independent School District Board of Trustees at a recent meeting where he was honored and performed for the group. Pictured are, seated from left, trustees Wesley Crow, Andrew Irvin and Bill Haisler; back row from left, trustee Ron Farr, Board President James Briggs, trustee Max Keele, Eakes, trustee Kirk Whitehead and Superintendent Dr. Brant Myers.
