Deadline nears for voters for Nov. 6 election
      Texas law requires a voter to be registered at least 30 days prior to the next election. To vote in the Nov. 6 election, advance voter registration is required in order to cast ballots in either early voting or on election day.

      The report from the Sept. 5 sale at Lampasas Cattle Auction is as follows. Cattle and calves: Estimated receipts 510 compared to 898 last week and 961 last year. Feeder steers and heifers steady. Slaughter cows $2 to $3 higher. Bulls steady.

Democrats gather for Labor Day
      As most people enjoyed a day off of work, local Democrats held a successful annual picnic at the Hancock Park Pavilion on Labor Day. Decorations were organized by Robin Gradel, with help from local Young Democrats, to include the traditional red, white and blue flags and bunting.

AARP offers driver safety program
      The AARP will offer a driver safety program Sept. 20-21 at the Lampasas Senior Center, 901 S. Live Oak, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. each day. The program is designed for those 50 and older, but anyone may attend. AARP membership is not necessary.

Herb/Art Fest on tap
      The Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce is seeking vendors and exhibitors to participate in the 13th annual Herb & Art Festival on Oct. 13. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on downtown Courtyard Square. Booths are $50 for a 10x10-foot space. Food booths are $80.

SBA to close outreach center in Lampasas
      Joseph O. Montes, regional administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, has announced that SBA will close its Lampasas County Disaster Loan Outreach Center on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The center has been operating locally from the Lampasas County Courthouse.
