Mrs. Bales

W. Edith Bales
Lifelong Lampasas resident W. Edith Bales, 97, died Sept. 8, 2007.

A celebration of remembrance is Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lampasas with the Rev. George Lumpkin officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.W. Hutcherson. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

Mrs. Bales was born March 11, 1910, at Rocky Creek to John and Altah Lenora Hendrix Tittle, one of four children. She attended Lampasas High School and graduated in 1928, later attending business college.

Mrs. Bales married Leo C. Bales in 1932, and he preceded her in death in June 1978.

She was a bookkeeper and a housewife and taught violin.

Mrs. Bales was very active in the 36 Club, Eastern Star and was on the PTA Board. She was an early president of the Texas Volunteer Firefighters and Fire Marshals Association Ladies' Auxiliary.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 87 years, joining the church in 1920 at 10 years of age.

Survivors include a daughter, Lenora Bales Hetherly, and husband, Jim, of Houston; a granddaughter, Julie Laine, and husband, David; a grandson, Rick Hetherly; and great-grandsons, Justin and Paul.

The family requested memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 2 Alexander, Lampasas, or to the charity of one's choice.
