Phone scam uncovered

Lometa residents are being cautioned about a telephone scam involving elderly residents in that community.

City officials said the perpetrator is phoning residents and thanking them for past donations to a local charity, then requesting contributions this year.

The perpetrator is mispronouncing "Lometa" and, generally, the local resident has realized it is a scam and hangs up the phone.

But there are those who could fall for the ruse, and Lometa officials have asked residents to be careful when they are being solicited for donations over the telephone.

The Lampasas County Sheriff's Department is aware of the scam.
