Null leads team past No. 8 South Dakota

Former Lampasas High quarterback Keith Null registered an upset on Thursday, leading No. 24 West Texas A&M past No. 8 South Dakota in the season opener for both NCAA Division II schools.

The redshirt junior and 2004 LHS graduate completed 28-of-41 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns in the 55-45 win in front of 13,000 fans at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon.

"We're really proud of Keith," West Texas head coach Don Carthel said. "That was a great win over a great team, and he performed really well. He kept his composure and ran the offense the way we expected him to. We're really going to have to keep defenses honest with the running game and the offensive line to make sure we keep Keith healthy."

Null is scheduled to lead the Buffaloes against the Adams State Grizzlies Saturday at 2 p.m. in Alamosa, Colo.
