Wedding vows exchanged at Austin chapel

Kacie and Bryan Whisenant
Kacie Killough and Bryan Whisenant, both of San Marcos, exchanged wedding vows in an April 27, 2007, wedding at the Chapel at Dulcinea in Austin.

Michael Jackson, uncle of the groom, officiated the double-ring evening ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Bobby and Linda Killough of Lampasas. She is the granddaughter of the late Bill and Ollie Mae Killough of Big Spring, and the late Marlin Maloney of New Home, and Mentha White of Tow.

The groom's parents are Burt and Margaret Whisenant of McAllen. He is the grandson of Mrs. J.L. Whisenant and the late Burt Whisenant Sr. of Brownsville, and Ruth Bugge and the late Harry Bugge Sr. of McQueeny.

The ceremony was held at a chapel on top of a hill overlooking the Hill Country and a waterfall.

Fresh flowers from Hawaii adorned the open-air chapel.

Wedding music included Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," "Pachelbel Canon in D," Wagner's "Bridal March," and "Caribbean Wedding Party March."

The wedding ceremony was intimate, with just 30 in attendance, including immediate family and close family members.

The couple brought a tropical feeling to the ceremony, using Hawaiian traditions. In lieu of Unity candles, the bride and groom exchanged leis with their parents to show unity between the families.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.

She chose a knee-length, strapless, off-white gown with flowershaped beading.

To complement her dress, the bride carried a bouquet of purple, white and pink flowers flown in from Hawaii. The leis were made of fresh orchids from Hawaii.

Attendant was Trina Black, cousin of the bride, of San Antonio.

She wore a black dress accented with a light-purple belt. She wore a purple and white lei.

Flower girls were Baylie Shelton, the bride's niece, and Lauren Cavazos, niece of the groom.

They wore light-purple, anklelength dresses.

Groomsman was Jimmy Webb of McAllen. Usher was Burt Whisenant III, the groom's brother.

Ring bearers were nephews of the groom, James Whisenant and Caleb Valdivia.

Following the ceremony, a reception was given by the bride's parents at Texas State Aviation Hangar in San Marcos, featuring a luau party and dinner and dancing for 200 guests.

A rehearsal dinner was given by the groom's parents at the Italian Garden in San Marcos prior to the ceremony.

After a wedding trip to Maui, Hawaii, the couple is at home in San Marcos.

The bride graduated from Lampasas High School and is a registered nursing student at Texas Tech University.

The groom, a McAllen High School graduate, attended Texas State University. He is a flight instructor for Texas State Aviation.
