ABWA set to recognize Hall of Fame honorees
      Central Texas Area American Business Women's Association Council will meet Sept. 13 at Stagecoach Inn at Salado. Four women will be inducted into the Central Texas Women's Hall of Fame. Recognition also will be given for American Business Women's Day on Sept. 22.

Local gallery exhibits feature painting of vet
      For nearly a week, an extraordinary portrait was on exhibit at the front of Nancy Gray's Fourth Street Gallery in Lampasas. Painted by Kaziah Hancock, the face of Victor M. Langarica, a U.S. Army corporal, was on display. Langarica was killed in the war in Iraq.

Driver's ed set to begin
      Lampasas High School is offering driver's education with classroom instruction to begin Sept. 5. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, 3:45-5:45 p.m., and are limited to the first 32 students to pay. Registration forms are available at the high school office.

      Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association will meet Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Lampasas Independent School District Board Room. All retired school personnel are encouraged to attend and become a member of the organization.

Classics to meet Saturday

      Gilseth son Maria and Jeff Gilseth of Lampasas are the parents of a son, Hunter Gene, born Aug. 8, 2007, at 6:41 p.m. at Darnall Army Community Hospital. At birth, Hunter weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces and was 21 inches long.

      An explosion of big bubbles erupted at the recent Back-to-School Rally set by New Covenant Church last week. Youngsters received free haircuts, refreshments and school supplies.

     After having his face painting, this youngster's father saved the young man's likeness on his cell phone camera. Face painting was one of many events at New Covenant's Back-to-School Rally held for local schoolchildren.

Herb/Art Fest coming soon
      The Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce is seeking vendors and exhibitors to participate in the 13th annual Herb & Art Festival on Oct. 13. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on downtown Courtyard Square. Booths are $50 for a 10x10-foot space. Food booths are $80.
