Hornets open football slate in Six-Man Super Saturday

The Lometa Hornets football team opens its regular season schedule as part of the Fourth Annual Hico Six-Man Super Saturday.

The Hornets are scheduled to open the five-game slate against Grand Falls-Royalty at 11 a.m.

The Hornets finished 3-8 last year but went 2-1 in Six-Man Division I District 16 and advanced to the playoffs. The Cowboys finished 5- 6, but they went 4-0 to win D-II District 3 and make to the playoffs.

On offense, the Hornets are led by senior quarterback Joe Michael Rivera, senior running back Anthony Torres and junior running back Sam Pauly. On defense, the Hornets are anchored by senior linebacker James Logsdon and senior nose guard James Smith.

"It's a great bunch of kids to work with," Lometa head coach Wendell Bradley said. "The kids have really been developing and coming together on their own. We have guys who are having to step into roles and make plays instead of relying on guys a year older to do it. They're really starting to assume ownership of the team and starting to show leadership."
